Originally from Houston, Conrad has lived in Austin for 12 years. After visiting a friend who was attending the University of Texas at the time, she fell in love with Austin's weirdness. Two weeks later she made the decision to move from her hometown, 165 miles west to the Capital City.
An artist practically since birth, Conrad doesn't remember a time when she wasn't painting regularly. There was an understanding between her and her parents as a child: no white wall in their home would go unpainted. A completely self-taught artist, Conrad has always enjoyed experimenting with new techniques and mediums, although she gravitates toward painting using acrylic on canvas.
At the age of eight or nine, Conrad's grandfather brought home a couple of rescue dachshunds covered in mange and she helped nurse them back to health. It was then that she realized her love of animals, especially those in need. When asked why she feels so passionately about this cause Conrad told us, "Rescue animals don’t have a voice and they need someone to speak up for them; they need someone on their side.”
For 10 years Conrad has graciously volunteered her time to benefit rescue animals. Six of those years have been spent volunteering at the Williamson Country Regional Animal Shelter where she photographs their adoptable cats and dogs free of charge. But Conrad's generosity is not limited to one shelter—she offers free photography sessions for any rescue animal.
Conrad worked as an Office Manager until 2010, when she began professionally running The Pet Studio as a full-time artist and small business owner. All of her artwork displays shelter or rescue animals including her paintings, jewelry and her popular tote bag designs.
When she is not creating art, Conrad spends her time volunteering at the animal shelter and with her husband and pets: a pit bull mix named Holly and her two best cat friends, Jazz and Izzy. She also enjoys exploring Austin's many walking trails and swimming at Barton Springs.
